The Orillia Fish And Game Conservation Club

Adopt A Highway

For a number of years, the Orillia Fish and Game Conservation Club (OFGCC) has participated in the Adopt A Highway Program. The Club has adopted a section of Highway 12 just west of Orillia, from Prices Corners to Warminster. Each spring a group of volunteers from the Club participate in the annual cleanup to rid the area of garbage and litter that have been discarded over the winter months. Each year volunteers are surprised by the amount and type of items people discard on the side of a highway, often in excess of fifty bags. It is most unfortunate that so many people have such little regard for the environment in which they live and use this area as their private dumping ground. Hopefully, as we continue to educate people on the impact that littering has on the environment, projects such as Adopt A Highway will become less necessary.
